Café Méricourt, Café Oberkampf’s petit frère cafe, has opened just around the corner from the local favourite’s first location.
Café Méricourt is intimate yet light, fitted out with classic blonde timber, green accented window frames, lovely straw lampshades, and gold painted columns for a touch of bling.
When I visited, I sat solo at the bar where the super friendly staff chatted with me as I waited for my meal.
Café Méricourt’s flat white was the closest I’ve found in Paris to Melbourne’s iconic incarnation, and the sandwich agneau was equally impressive. The confit lamb shoulder was mouth-wateringly good, served with a delicious tomato chutney, balsamic salad and creamy coleslaw with labneh and mint.
While I was there, people walked in who had come from Café Oberkampf which was either full or they were told about the second address and had come to try it, proving the new spot to be an instant success. If you’re worried about grabbing a seat to enjoy coffee or lunch, rest assured tables can be reserved online.
